The first step in writing a manifesto is to penetrate the indoctrination that injustice is inevitable.

06/05/2002 Entry: sex, tampons, and endometriosis

Women who engage in sexual activity or use tampons while menstruating seem to lower their chances of developing the painful condition known as endometriosis, says a New York Times article. (free registration required to view new york times website.) Apparently, orgasm helps push more out, and tampons help wick more out.

I'm not sure I'm going back to wearing tampons (I love my Keeper) but that's good to know anyway. :)

I have endometriosis and I was wondering if maybe wearing a tampon would cause the blood the flow back into your body backward. I know that your blood flowing the wrong way is one of the causes of endometriosis and I was wondering I I stop wearing tampons all together if that will help.

I have it VERY bad!! I have been taking a birth control pill for almost a year now and it is not seeming to help. I am 18years old and EXTREMELY tired of this pain. My doctor is going to have me try something different, but if this doesn't help I'm having surgery.

This study is flawed, biased and completely out of line. Not to mention, it was done over 6 yrs. ago. Why all the sudden interest and feigned "surprise" from the Yale researchers now, 6+ yrs. later? And why the subsequent media frenzy lauding this study as the holy grail of Endo research? There is absolutely no substance to this "research" whatsoever. I advise anyone who wants to know the real story, read the excellent - and evidence based - rebuttal by the Endo Research Center at www.endocenter.org/endostudy.html. The Endo Association, who *participated* in the study, doesn't even support it! What does that tell you? See http://www.endometriosisassn.org/inthenews.html for more info. By the way, retrograde menstruation is not the definitive cause of Endo. That is an outdated myth preached by clueless doctors who don't keep up on clinical studies and advances on the disease. Retro menses happens in about 95% of all women - yet only some develop Endo. Besides, retrograde menses does nothing to explain Endo in the rare men who have been diagnosed with it and the infants who had it before they ever even had a first period. Check out Dr. Redwine's info - he's the expert. http://www.endometriosistreatment.org.

I have many links regarding tampons and endometriosis on my site. Including a link to the so called expert study. I agree with Donnica completely!
