The first step in writing a manifesto is to penetrate the indoctrination that injustice is inevitable.

08/20/2001 Entry: A month in review

As usual, Burning Man planning has swallowed August. Since a little over a month ago, I've enjoyed my birthday, a beach burn, a new web-based game, and some serious planning on the burning-man front.

For my birthday, Ethan bought me a new camera and I bought myself that scanner I want. I love 'em both. The camera is a Canon Elan 7E, complete with eye-controlled focusing. I used it at the beach burn to get some photographs of my usual favorite subjects -- my friends and our fire. And my main goal for burning man is to try *not* to chew through forty rolls of film, this time.

Even with my determination to not sign myself up for as much responsibility for burning man this year, I've found myself with my hands full. Ethan's job has gotten extremely hectic -- he's shipping right around when we leave -- and so I've been trying to do everything for both of us. Thankfully, he's found a bit of time lately to at *least* double-check our packing-list. My goal for the packing is to get *everything* we need on my list -- and then in pilies in the living room -- so when the time comes to actually put things in bags, I won't have to think much.

We'll see how well that works.

The new web-based game is Paint by Numbers -- they provide a grid with numbers along the side and top, indicating how many colored-in-squares there are in those rows and columns; then, I figure out which squares get colored-in and which don't, to make a picture. I haven't enjoyed pencil-and-paper versions of these puzzles, but figuring it out with a java applet (no more erasers!) is lots of fun.
