The first step in writing a manifesto is to penetrate the indoctrination that injustice is inevitable.

07/01/2001 Entry: Last day of June

On Saturday, the last day of June, I went to brunch at Adam/Donna/Kirby/Mason/Stefan's house. Donna was hosting a "trunk show" by Paula, a local costume-designer; the house was packed with people and the clothes were lovely. I bought a sparkly-turquoise-outfit (tank top + beaded skirt), a sequined leopard-print tank, and a beaded lace skirt. Very pretty. Most of what Paula had there wasn't anywhere close to my size -- she caters primarily to middle-of-the-road sized women -- but she does custom work, so I'll probably bring her some of My Favorite Clothes to give her an idea of what looks good on me, and ask her to make some shiny/fuzzy/sparkly versions.

Late afternoon, Adam showed up at our place with an entourage to make use of the hottub; they ordered pizza and we all soaked & ate & talked. Somehow, we managed to spend nearly four hours at it; they left at nine and I went off to play SimCity.

I love SimCity -- it's mostly nonlinear. I love organically growing cities based on citizen demand, or personal whim, or some combination of the two. Last year I accidentally made a city with some empty space in the middle: Golden Rail City. When I noticed that the city was shaping up that way, I turned it into a big park. It kind of feels like Golden Gate Park, but without the Panhandle. It's a fun city to play with, but I've set up so much infrastructure that there's not much left to do -- except rebuild the spaceport every hundred years or so, because the aliens in the game like to come blow it up. :)

Today, first day of July, I'm setting up this weblog, ordering groceries from Albertson's (because Webvan, who bought our local HomeGrocer, hasn't been serving me well), and doing lots and lots of laundry. And maybe playing some more SimCity.

I believe that the next house should *not* have the laundry in the basement. Carrying laundry baskets up and down two flights of stairs is No Fun At All. Particularly the "up" part. Either that, or I need a Really Big Dumbwaiter.
