sev's giftlist

People have complained that I'm difficult to shop for. I'd thought that 100+ pages of vanity HTML would give people ideas, but apparently I need to be more specific. So, for those whose creativity doesn't extend to gift-giving, here goes nothing...

in general

I've got wishlists at Femail Creations, Amazon.com, and wishlist.com. Wishlist.com is neat because they let me put items from any online merchant in my list.

to wear

I don't really wear necklaces and I can tolerate very few rings, but I do wear earrings. Preferably hypoallergenic -- or even better, with niobium earwires.

clothes or gift certificates

I've decided I'm no longer interested in owning clothes that aren't shiny, fuzzy, or otherwise luxurious. Life's too short to wear boring clothes.

  • At normal clothing retailers, I wear a size 12 (or Large) in dresses that flare at the waist, or a size 14 in dresses that stay fitted past the hips. In separates, I wear a 12 for most tops (14 for tops that button down the front), and 16 in bottoms. Note that this means it's hard to shop for me in normal department stores; I do most of my shopping mail-order where there's a bigger size selection.
  • Tailored dresses with short sleeves in luxurious fabrics -- no straight skirts for me! Key words are: fit and flare, princess seams. Note that I'm less excited about 'empire waist'. I'm vain about the curve between my waist and my hips, and I like things that emphasize it.
  • I love burnout velvet, particularly in multiple jeweltones in one piece.
  • Bequi; I wear a "medium" in her size-chart. That means I wear the size she makes her samples in -- yay for bargains!
  • Versatile Fashions (they made me a fun-fur corset, courtesy of my mom who got me a gift certificate for christmas. I have the greatest mom!)
  • Peggy Lutz. Peggy's got an online store, now, so it's even easier to buy from her -- I wear her size XXS (though I prefer XS for skirts & pants). She does some amazing work in burnout velvet and I love everything in her Diva Drama section. Her dresses are ever so slightly baggy on me, even in their smallest size, but they're *so* pretty!

to do

Seen any good books on photography? I'm pretty fond of my Photography for Dummies (I'm not kidding! It taught me a lot!), but I still enjoy reading up on my favorite activity. Posing, framing, lighting, color developing...

Given the way my fountain pens tend to leak all over my fingers, this might be better in "to wear" -- but I'm looking for good-quality fountain pen ink in pretty colors. I've got pink and green -- what else is out there?

to listen to

In case you don't already know, I like chick rock. Particularly angry chick rock. Sappy love songs annoy me, most of the time.

Somebody on the 'net has described Mollie's Revenge to me, and it sounds like my kind of music.

to play

I've transitioned from WinNT to Win98 to WinMe to WinXP on my client machine, which I only use for games and for logging into other machines. Ditching WinNT for Win98 meant that my computer crashed a lot more often and begged to be rebooted nightly, but it did mean that a lot of the games I couldn't previously play are now available to me. WinMe continued that trend, with less crashing and rebooting, but Windows XP is the best of 'em all -- more stable than any of the previous options, and it runs all the games! Yay!

been played most lately: CivIII, The Sims, Sim City

(the following list was made, like, in 2000. I'm sure more games have come out that I'd be interested in since then, but I've been paying insufficient attention.)

Dark Reign is sometimes called the best of its breed, and it's a breed (strategy) that I spend a lot of time playing.

I've yet to play Dungeon Keeper, but it sounds cute.

I played the demo version of SimTower for awhile, and while the demo version is pretty rudimentary, the game still interests me.

I realize that turn-based role-playing games are dying a slow death, but I find them enjoyable still, which is why I'd like to give Heroes of Might and Magic a shot.

Gamespot said that Myth II "is about as good as a computer game can possibly be." That sounds intriguing...

I definitely enjoyed Starcraft; the Brood War expansion set may rekindle my interest.

household

Candles and candleholders.

Bath stuff -- bubble bath, bath salts, soap, etc.

to read
This is a difficult list, since for the most part, if there's something I wanna read, I just go ahead and *buy* it. I love sci-fi. Particularly female authors. Though I've had quite enough of Anne McCaffrey, Mercedes Lackey, and the like. Wanna win my heartfelt devotion? Turn me on to a promising new female author I fall madly in love with.
