PRR Cabins
N5

The first all-steel cabin car, first built by the PRR in 1914. Large numbers were built until 1929. Developed into the later N5B and N5C classes of cabin.

This example is in the 1950s shadow keystone scheme.

N5a

Minor differences from N5; most noticeable is that the stove chimney is repositioned, suggesting an internal rearrangement.

This one is in 1960s Focal Orange paint.

N5b

The N5b was built with collision posts (earlier N5 cabins were retrofitted with them), handholds that reached a little higher on the sides, and a rearranged internal layout.

This example is in the 1950s shadow keystone scheme and bears a distinctive PRR induction trainphone antenna.

N5c

The N5c sported a restyled look, with round windows and a streamlined cupola.

This example is in the 1960s Focal Orange scheme and bears trainphone antennas.

[PRR N5c Orange Trainphone]
[PRR N5c Orange] An orange N5c without trainphones this time.
[PRR N5c Shadow Trainphone] An N5c in shadow keystone with a trainphone antenna and the yellow cupola indicating interdivisional assignment.
[PRR N5c Shadow] Shadow keystone scheme, no trainphone.
N8

The N8, a new, modern cabin design, emerged in 1950. They were longer than an N5 but with a smaller streamlined cupola than the N5c

This one has the interdivisional assignment yellow cupola and the post-1961 scheme of a giant keystone with no 'Pennsylvania' on the side, just the number.

[PRR N8 Orange] Post-1965 Focal Orange paint.
[PRR N8 Shadow Trainphone] Shadow keystone scheme, trainphone.
[PRR N8 Shadow] Shadow keystone scheme, no trainphone.
