08/27/00 -- Wasted Weekend

You should've been [...]

Yep, I should've been.  I had the whole weekend to myself.  Jonah and Boo were out of town with work.  I had an extra dog (dog-sitting ... it got me a box of Ghiradelli truffles!), but that wasn't going to get in my way.

I was going to spend all weekend writing.  I was going to come home from work on Friday, put some stuff away and start writing ... and not stop until Jonah and Boo got home on Sunday.

I wound up spending the weekend looking for distraction.  I raked Shilo.  When Harry met Sally was on.  The House of Wax was on (the original, with Vincent Price!).  Suicide Kings was on.  Beetlejuice was on.  I had to spend quality time with my blender.  There was a Friends of the Lowly Rutabaga meeting.  Anything.  I tried to write.  On Saturday I managed to cut almost 300 words out of the revised version of "Sisters and Sirens" (which was, before I started cutting, almost 8300 words long ... from 3800 at Clarion).  I added 200 words to my novel (which I haven't touched in two weeks, by the way).   Not the same words I cut from S&S.

S&S needs to get cut some more.  I'm sure of it.  I don't think it's really an 8000 word story, but I'm waiting for some comments before I take the scalpel to it again.

I have six more Clarion stories to revise.  One of them went out in the mail on Friday ... or Thursday.  I don't remember.  But it went out.

I've got a nagging idea for a new story, but it may not go anywhere.  It's just images, really, floating in my head, kind of nebulous, nothing solid.  Maybe they'll coagulate this week.

In theory, I'll have more time without distraction for the next 6-8 weeks while Jonah and Boo are out in CA for work.  Maybe I'll make good use of them instead of fucking around and looking for distractions of my own making like I did this weekend.
