07/02/00 -- Beware the Overzealous Auto-Flush Toilet

*flush*  Hello!  *flush*  I'm your toilet! *flush*  I'm happy to help today! *flush*

Imagine having that conversation with a toilet ... only without all of the words.  Just the flushes.  You've got the toilet in the ladies' room in Van Hoosen.  It's frightening.  Er, unless you're Linda.  If you're Linda, it ignores you.  And I guess that's just as frightening.

But enough of that.

I was having a weird dream this morning.  I discovered yesterday, on the way to/from seeing Titan AE that WCW Thunder is going to be here the ... er, well, the 19th of July.  So in my dream this morning, I dreamed of an alternate Clarion.  A Clarion in which Bill Goldberg was one of our fellow Clarionettes.  It just got weirder from there.

Thankfully, however, David woke me up by knocking on my door to see if I wanted to join him and Nalo for breakfast somewhere on Grand River.  I hopped a quick shower and did just that.  We wound up at this little diner type place and watched some weird MTV dance contest while we waited for food and while we ate.  Truly strange.  Like watching a train wreck... Or, as Nalo said, like picking a scab.

On the way back, we wound up at the MSU student book store.  I contained my impulse shopping instinct.  I did not by the $27 spiral bound notebook with black pages and a black velvet cover.  In fact, I didn't buy anything.  Huzzah!

Back on campus, I wound up trying to edit my story.  The one that's probably way too long for anyone to really want to read.  Then dragged it and the stories for critique down to Van Hoosen for what was theoretically going to be a pizza party.  But there is nowhere in East Lansing (almost) that you can order pizza from before, say, 4pm.  It was 2:30.  Suffice it to say the notion of pizza wound up canned and a half-dozen of us went off to have food at IHOP and then hit Meijer's.

Fun, eh?

Back on campus, I wound up hanging out in Van Hoosen where it was air conditioned and thus cooler and much less muggy than anywhere else.  (Saw Chip for a few minutes before then, too!  Mary had brought him back to campus after a lunch with him and Tananarive to pass the ba-ton or somesuch, I'm sure.)  I edited my story, re-read Goblin Market, edited my story s'more, put it down and read/critiqued the three stories for tomorrow, then went through another editing round.  Oy!

Wound up chatting with David, Nalo, and Stuart for a while, then going out to Chili's with them for a late late dinner.  Entertaining, yes.  Fun, yes.  Edible?  Perhaps.  Depends on which of us you talk to.  :)

While we were eating/finishing, a thunderstorm snuck in.  I thought that one of the street lights just had flickering problems.  No, it was lightning.  Lots of it.  The storm came down pretty damn hard while we finished and paid, and then on us while we raced across the parking lot to the car.

I dropped folks off at the dorm room, then parked.  Thankfully, the storm had let up a bit so I didn't wind up too soaking wet on the walk back to the dorm from the parking lot.  While I like my haircut, it's weather like this that makes me kinda hate it... most especially when I have gel in.  The gel runs down my forehead and into my eyes.  Ouch.

So I finished editing my story.  Entered all the changes.  It's about time for me to print it out and go to bed.  It'll probably take all night.  It's 44 pages, total.  @.@

I've gotta remember to bring Lansing down for critique tomorrow morning.  (Critiquing "Switched to Overload" ... Aiee!)  Probably him and not grumpy Pikachu.  Lansing's easier to hide behind.

Anyway.. Say g'night, Aynjel.

G'night, Aynjel.

Okay, so other folks are talking about their productivity here.  I decided I may as well, too.
This list (and my productivity) is subject to change without notice. :)

Title

"Where the Blood Roses Grow"
Week one, first story.  Wahoo.  And I was worried that something wouldn't come.

"Uprooting the Tree"
Will probably change the title at some point.
3400 6/16 6/19
"Mockingbird Girl"
I think I'm happiest with this story, so far.
2800 6/19 6/26
"Poor as Paupers, Rich as Royalty"

That fucking first person narrative (not yet complete) - May never be completed.  Don't I feel like an idiot... (400)
"Switched to Overload"  (That other fucking first person narrative)
Actually, I like this one better than the one above it ...  Even if it did wind up being two first person narratives in one story.  o.O
4900 6/27 7/3
"Sweeter Than Honey, Stronger Than Wine"  (My Tananrive Due challenge story.  Write a story in the style of an author whose work you admire.  Aieee!  It was sort of supposed to be in the style of Tanith Lee.  I'm not sure I hit that.  But it's definitely got a Christina Rossetti influence.) 9200 7/2
