05/07/00 -- Twisting this way and that

How does she do that?

I watched Cirque de Soleil's Quidam on Bravo this morning.   Wow.  All I can say is, "Wow."  And you thought I was a writer...

Makes me wish I could've got tickets for D'ralion while it's here in Denver, but no chance at this point.  Probably not really before now, either.   Since it starts on the 6th and I'm driving off for Clarion on the 9th, that would've been 3 chances... the three opening days.  Not likely if I hadn't managed to get tickets right when they went on sale.  I guess at some point, I'm going to have to go to Vegas and see Cirque de Soleil there.

I think what amazed me most is the power in the people performing.  The acrobatic skill and the strength in their bodies!  I was breathless watching them, watching their muscles, their movements, in awe of how effortless they made everything appear.

Though I'm certain everything was far from effortless.

I want to be able to do with words what they did with their bodies; create something so powerful, so breathtaking, and make it look effortless.

Hell, I wouldn't mind being able to do what they did with their bodies with my body, but I know that's out of the question.  Even if I managed to get down to 13% body fat or something, and work myself pretty hard I'm not sure I'd have the strength or the flexibility to do the ropework, do go through most of what those people went through over the course of the performance.  Hell, I'd probably look funny trying.  I doubt any of them were 6'2" and built like good peasant stock. :P

Beauty, sparsity of movement, strength underneath a fragile-seeming exterior (when viewed from a distance).  They told stories with every movement.  And every movement counted.

It was absolutely amazing.
