02/11/00 -- Egypt-a-holic

So I'm already planning what I want to do with my (theoretical) bonus that'll come at the end of 2000.  I want to go to Egypt.  The Denver Museum of Natural History is in the process of planning two different trips to Egypt and, if they happen at the right time, and I get a cool bonus, then maybe, just maybe, I'll be able to go on one of them.

I'd love to write a story, heck or even a novel, set in ancient Egypt.  I've got one thing started that's got some Egyptian flavor to it, but isn't strictly ancient Egypt.  A friend who has read what I've got of it so far says it has a Middle Eastern/Indian flavor along with the Egyptian bit.  I've got tons of ideas, too, but I don't know that I know enough about the culture/time.

I really enjoyed the Mysteries of Egypt exhibit that was at the Richmond Art Museum.  I must have, I went twice.  Spent more than two hours in there the first time, and another two hours in there the second time.  I took about fifteen pages worth of notes and doodles.

I'd love to see more movies set in ancient Egypt.  Friend of mine asked what the movie would be about if it didn't include mummies, since that seems to be what the bulk of the world knows about.  I really enjoyed the beginning sequence of the 1999 movie version of The Mummy.  I whined when it stopped and they jumped forward in time.  I would have really enjoyed seeing more in that time frame and that's when I started wondering what they could have done in that time frame.

Trig thinks I should write something.  I'm not sure I'd be any good at writing a screenplay, but I'm tempted.  I just need to find a decent story.... which is the story of my life, really, when I want to write about a specific time or place or thing.

At some point, I'm going to have an idea and then the fifteen pages worth of notes is going to explode into a handful of stories.
